We began planning this exhibition near the end of a winter determined to hang on longer than most, so perhaps that is why we were drawn to works from all the collections that took us outside. To the wilderness, to city streets and small towns, to the intersection of people and the world. Our focus though became not landscape, or at least not exclusively, but ways of looking at that outside world that help us move through it. Ideas of how rivers work, how the outside is brought inside, how it’s charted and mapped, people watching
