Simone Elizabeth Saunders is a Canadian artist. She is primarily a textile artist, using a unique tool called a tufting gun. Integrating the gun with punch needle, Simone creates hand-tufted textiles of colorful portraiture celebrating womanhood that is rooted in a rich and vibrant Black history.

Simone is an award-winning artist, including the Bank of Montreal’s National 1st! Art Competition, as the National Winner of 2020.  She graduated with honors from the Alberta University of the Arts in May 2020. Other awards in 2020 include the Alberta University of the Arts’ Board of Governors’ Graduating Student Award for Fibre, the Illingworth Kerr Gallery Award for Academic Achievement and the Surface Design Associations Outstanding Student Award. Recently Simone has been featured in Canada’s House&Home Magazine, CBC Arts, “What’re You At?” with Tom Power, CBCq, CBC Radio One, Booooooom, Galleries West and much more.
