Her Own Way: A Selection of Women Artists in the Nickle Collection

June 1, 2026 – August 21, 2026

Exhibition Details

Her Own Way brings together women artists from the permanent collection of Nickle Galleries who were producing work in the post-war era between 1950 and 1979, the year the gallery was founded. The exhibition draws out artworks that have rarely been exhibited, highlighting women artists in the collection while investigating the challenges and successes faced by this distinct group.

The breadth of media, subject matter, and aesthetic approaches offers insight into the distinct paths these artists forged in their practices during this period.

This story is shaped by the collecting practices that have informed the gallery since its beginnings. While it does not represent a wide range of cultural experiences and backgrounds, it offers insight into the trajectory of women working at a time when gender bias and misogyny played a significant role in the art world.
